At the World Museum you will find an extensive permanent exhibition and regularly changing interactive exhibitions in which the objects each tell a human story. Stories about universal human themes such as mourning, celebrating, decorating, praying or fighting. They arouse curiosity about the enormous cultural diversity of the world. The permanent exhibitions cover Southeast Asia, Oceania, western Asia, North Africa, Africa, Latin America, people and environment, and music, dance and theater.
The World Museum is housed in one of the most beautiful museum buildings in the Netherlands. The impressive national monument located on the Oosterpark, in the heart of Amsterdam East, dates back to 1926. A true landmark for Amsterdam residents. The imposing central Light Hall offers a panoramic view of what the museum has to offer
The museum is part of the Royal Tropical Institute, which includes a library and theater in addition to the museum. The library is a repository of publications on travel, food and eating habits, development aid and music in other cultures. The theater is Amsterdam's premier venue for world music.
